Why Adelaide Drivers Are Getting Paint Correction Done Now

Swirl marks, fine scratches, and dull oxidised paint do not fix themselves. Every month you leave them, UV from Adelaide's sun bites deeper into the clear coat. What starts as a dull finish becomes a paint job that no amount of washing or waxing will bring back.

Paint correction is the only way to physically remove surface defects — not mask them. A properly corrected finish reflects light cleanly, makes your car look years newer, and gives any protective coating applied afterwards something solid to bond to. That means better durability and a longer-lasting result.

Whether you are protecting a daily driver in Tea Tree Gully, getting a work ute ready for sale in Salisbury, or maintaining a prestige vehicle in Burnside, corrected paint holds its value better. Buyers notice. Dealers notice. And once you see what your car actually looks like under a proper machine polish, you will not want to go back.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Wash and Decontaminate

The vehicle gets a full decontamination wash to remove road grime, brake dust, iron fallout, and bonded contaminants. A clay bar is then used across every panel to pull out embedded particles that a wash alone cannot touch. Skipping this step means polishing over contamination — which damages paint instead of restoring it.

45 to 60 minutes
2

Paint Inspection and Depth Testing

Every panel is checked under high-intensity LED lighting to map out defect types and severity. A paint depth gauge is used to measure clear coat thickness and confirm how much correction is safe. This is how Russel determines which tier of correction your car actually needs — no upselling, just honest assessment.

20 to 30 minutes
3

Machine Polishing and Correction

Using a dual-action or rotary polisher with the appropriate compound and pad combination, each panel is worked systematically to remove defects without burning through clear coat. Heavier defects get a cut stage first, followed by a finer finishing pass to refine the surface and push gloss levels. The work is checked constantly under lighting as each section is completed.

2 to 6 hours depending on tier and vehicle size
4

IPA Wipe and Defect Check

Once polishing is done, each panel is wiped down with an isopropyl alcohol solution to strip away any polishing oils and reveal the true corrected finish underneath. This is the honest check — any remaining defects become visible and can be addressed before the job is called done.

20 to 30 minutes
5

Protection Application and Final Inspect

A paint sealant or carnauba wax is applied to protect the freshly corrected surface. If you have opted for a ceramic coating on top of the correction, this is where that process begins. The car is inspected under natural light before handover so you can see the result clearly. Nothing leaves until both Russel and you are satisfied.

Paint Correction FAQ

Paint correction is priced based on the level of correction needed, the size of your vehicle, and the condition of the paint. Peak Detailing offers three tiers: Single Stage, Two Stage, and Multi-Stage. Get a free quote and Russel will assess your paint and give you a clear price before any work starts — no surprises.
A single-stage correction on a standard sedan typically takes three to four hours. A two-stage on a larger vehicle or one with heavier defects can take five to seven hours. Multi-stage corrections on prestige or heavily damaged vehicles may span a full day. You will get a time estimate when you book.
The correction itself is permanent for the defects removed — those swirl marks and scratches are physically gone, not filled in. How long the paint stays that way depends on how you maintain it. Without a protective coating, new swirl marks can appear within months from improper washing. With a ceramic coating applied on top, the surface stays protected and easier to maintain for years.
Avoid automatic car washes entirely — they are the number one cause of swirl marks. Use a quality two-bucket hand wash method or a contactless wash. Dry with a clean microfibre towel. If a ceramic coating was applied, periodic maintenance washes and an annual ceramic top-up will keep the paint in top condition for years.
A traditional cut and polish done at a fast-detail shop typically uses a rotary polisher at high speed with aggressive compounds and little refinement — it removes defects but can leave buffer trails and does not maximise gloss. Professional paint correction uses the right combination of machine, pad, and product for your specific paint type and defect level, with a finishing stage to properly refine the surface. The result is cleaner, safer, and longer-lasting.
Paint correction removes defects that sit within the clear coat layer. If a scratch catches your fingernail noticeably, it has likely gone through the clear coat into the base coat or primer — that requires touch-up paint or panel repair, not polishing. During the inspection stage, Russel will identify which defects can be corrected and which cannot, so you know exactly what the result will look like before work begins.
You do not have to, but it makes sense to consider it. Correction removes existing damage. Without a protective layer on top, the paint is exposed again from the moment you drive away. A ceramic coating applied straight after correction bonds to the freshly polished surface at its best state, providing hydrophobic protection, UV resistance, and making the car far easier to keep clean long-term.
Russel will not hand your car back until you have inspected it in natural light and you are happy with the result. If something is not right, it gets addressed before you leave. The goal is a result you can see clearly — not one you have to take on faith.
